Estonian Academy of Arts Faculty of Architecture Public Guest Speaker Series

ROEMER VAN TOORN /Umeå

Roemer van Toorn (1960) is a Dutch architecture theorist. Having graduated from the Delft University of Technology and taught in the Berlage Institute, where he was responsible for the programme of history and theory and all the publications of the school, he is currently a professor of architecture theory and communication in the recently founded Umeå School of Architecture in Sweden. Besides architecture theory he is actively engaged in photography and curating. He has been an advisor and contributor to Archis (Volume), Domus, Abitare and many other highly appreciated architecture magazines. His current focus – especially evident in his photobook “Society of the And“ – lies in analyzing the ways different contemporary architectural practices establish themselves politically.

The lecture belongs to the same series as the lecture of November 5 and 19 and December 3 and is open to all students and professionals in the fields of architecture, urbanism and spatial studies, as well as to the broader circle of those interested in the future of our living environment.

The autumn season of lectures is supported by Estonian Cultural Endowment and organised by the Architecture department of Estonian Art Academy.
