LET´S TALK ABOUT DANCE:
NUDITY + PROVOCATION ON STAGE

For the second time Kanuti Gildi SAAL is organizing a discussion focused on the topics related to dance and stage arts in general. Just before the International Dance Day we find it appropriate to speak about one of the youngest, headway kinds of art – contemporary dance that is developing with the fastest rate. A year ago the identity problems of art evoke heated discussions. Since dance does not exist singly then the highlighted topics apply to other stage and visual arts.
This time we have chosen two topics – nudity and provocation.

On Thursday (19.04) we start with the topic that has been unsettling the audiences and the critics for a long time – why do we see naked flesh so often when it comes to contemporary dance and performance arts? Is nudity a sign? Is it pure self-reproach? A way to gain attention? A way to startle the audience? Why do they do it after all? Among others there will be presentations by Ene-Liis Semper, Heili Einasto, Krõõt Juurak.

On Friday (20.04) we approach a more large-scale concept in the arts – provocation. Has it always been a tool of astists? What is it? Is it progressive or conservative? Is it nowadays possible at all to make art that reaches the audience without provocation? Presentations by Marco Laimre, Ilmar Raag ...

We expect both theoretics and patricians to present their short presentations. These presentations will be followed by discussions led by familiar thinkers.

The aim of the ´Let´s talk about dance´ discussions is to enlighten the essential creative debate on the topics f dance art. Everyone is welcome to join in. But if You cannot find time to be present then it´ll be good to be aware of the fact that our target is to finally also publish these materials.
Unfortunately there is yet no tradition of dealing with the theories of dance or stage arts in general. Where are our ´Maska´ or ´Frakcija´ type of publications?

All discussions in Estonian. Entrance free.
