The Misfits: 30 Years of Fluxus

author: Lars Movin, 1993
in collaboration with Kumu Auditorium
duration: 90’

Lars Movin presents a video portrait of artists who have radically disrupted our conception of art since the 1960s. A large part of the video was made in Venice in 1990, when many of the original Fluxus artists met to hold a large exhibition in connection with the Biennale. The tape includes interviews with most of the leading Fluxus artists, documentation of their works, and clips from videos and films made during the 30 years of this ungovernable art form. With Eric Anderson, Philip Corner, Henry Flynt, Ken Friedman, Alison Knowles, Jonas Mekas, Yoko Ono, John Cage, Joseph Beuys, Geoffrey Hendricks, and many more. The Misfits was three years in the making and has been widely screened throughout Europe and North America

Lars Movin (born 1959) is a Danish writer, director, and video producer who has been creating artists' documentaries for over twenty years. He is an author of several books, among them are Danish Video (published in 1992); Rockreklamer (about music video, published in 1990), Videologier 1: 33 tekster om amerikansk videokunst (published in 2003). His articles have been seen in newspapers and periodicals since 1983. Movin has also been a journalist for the Danish cultural TV-magazine "Kultur-Kompaniet" and organizer of the "Lyrik och Billeder" Festival in Odense.
