KATRIN ESSENSON     /PREMIERE!/
'Manusega mõtted'
(thoughts with attachment)

“Thoughts with attachment” in focused on the phenomenon of pleasure within the context of performance.
It is clear that pleasure has poor possibilities for intriguing communication solely on the level of motor reflex; at the same time we can not take pleasure merely as plain phenomenon. The main starting point of this piece is symbolic and actual space that is being operated by all kinds of performing arts. At this point it is not about establishing absolute and impeccable theoretical and practical model. It is about an idea or the process of interpreting / translating / transmitting of the material.
There is something about the way we think about the way we think or it may also be called as a continuous process of emotions within the world of human beings and things. The most exciting part of the phenomenon of pleasure transmitted via dance or any other form is the way it alters in the head of the receiver. What is the “message” of a dance piece and all in all is it possible to talk about “common interests” of the performer and the spectator or the “direct participation” of the spectator.
As unreasonable as it may seem, but direct expression, straight from the body or cosmos alone is not enough. Christian culture has been cultivated for 2005 years and the predecessors have told a lot. According to their experience it is obvious that different abstract conclusions can only be based on the everyday existence of human beings.

One possible way thoughts with attachment can appear.
“Some time ago I was embarrassed for myself; my own thoughts scared me as soon as I
found myself humming this melody…vigorously humming “it takes two to tango” – my ears jammed with an overwhelming piece of chewing gum, apiece of music that was popular in the 50’s for some an inexplicable reasons. I am absolutely sure that I would never have chosen or respected this melody more that silence. But there it was horrible musical virus, at least more robust in my mind than any melody that I actually respect.” – Daniel Dennett
