The aim of Nu Scandik is to introduce new tendencies & leaders within the Nordic dance and performance scene to Estonian audience and further the cultural cooperation between Estonia and Nordic countries.
In festival Nu Scandik 2006 we offer to audience a change to enjoy recent, visually appealing works by the representatives of Icelandic, Denish, Finish and Norwegian contemporary dance scene. Besides performances and “meet the artist” events there will be open discussion concerning to the contemporary dance and issues/entries connected to identity through a Nordic perspective.
Nu Scandik 2006 festival is symbolic conclusion of series of events devoted to the Nordic and Scandinavian new dance: mini-festival Nu Norden 2003 and series of performances, residencies, films and discussions under the name: NuScandik 2005.
Nu Norden took place in Kanuti Gildi SAAL two years ago. Extraordinary big interest of the audience and media, as well the art community in Estonia, were the reasons why we dedicate ourselves to this theme again and even more thoroughly in Nu Scandik 2005, what introduced the new dance generation from Sweden and Norway. Thorough attention means several performances by one performer, discussions, workshops, films, residences expressing the diversity by bringing to Estonia well-known artists like Ina C. Johannessen, Jo Stromgren etc. and younger generation artists.
Nu Scandik 2006 will end the cycle of devoted to new contemporary dance choreographers from Nordic countries. Holding four Nordic countries – Denmark, Norway, Iceland and Finland, it will be more overlooking than Nu Norden and NuScandik 2005. Our specific priorities through the performances and discussion are:
 to introduce to Estonian audience and artists the new issues in Nordic contemporary dance scene and through this cooperation to create the new forms of cultural expression and communication.
 to increased awareness of the history of Nordic and Estonian contemporary dance culture and new traditions and contemporary cultural heritage between Nordic countries and Estonia.
 to great new connection between Estonian and Nordic young dance artists in connection of new situations created by the opening European Union for new members.
 to great new connection between Estonian and Nordic contemporary dance associations and networks and exchange the experiences and information.

Our long-term aim is to activate currently almost non-existing relations and collaborations between Nordic and Estonian dancers and choreographers. Nordic contemporary dance has developed on its own for years, getting more influences from Asia than Europe. Nordic dance is mobile and physical, being therefore often "understandable" also to the ordinary audience. This can maybe also explain the lack of contact points between Estonian and Nordic dance scenes. We trying to find the answer to the questions connection with contemporary dance and issues/entries connected to identity through a Nordic perspective. The project helps to co-operate contacts of Estonian and Scandinavian dancers.

Nu Scandik is supported by Tallinn City Council Cultural Heritage Department; Cultural Endowment of Estonia; Nordic Culture Fund; Danish Cultural Institute; Royal Danish Embassy in Estonia; Finnish Institute; Royal Norwegian Embassy in Tallinn; Nordic Hotels; Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Estonia and Carlsberg.
